Upcoming Events- December

In December, many things are happening. These include multiple girls/boys high school basketball games. There will be an away basketball game on the 2nd (against Murtaugh), another away game on the 3rd (against Castleford), a home game on the 8th (against Richfield), and another home game for JV only on the 10th (against Oakley); all of these games start at 6 pm. There will also be many Junior High girls and boys basketball games. These include an away game on the 8th against Hansen (girls only), a home game on the 10th against Melodrama (both girls and boys), and another home game on the 16th against Castleford (boys and girls). All of these games start at 4 except for the one on the 10th against Melodrama which will start at 6 pm. Another event happening in December is a school board meeting on the 7th; this starts at 7 pm. There will also be a Professional Development on the 11th which starts at 8 am and ends at 4 pm.

November Student of The Month

Every month we have two new students of the month. This month we have one for the junior high and the other from the high school. We have Dorthy Jensen (7th grade) and Kinley Whitmarsh (12th grade-senior). These students have worked hard in their classes, and the school has acknowledged them for doing their best. I have asked to interview these young ladies, and they have agreed to answer some questions.

First, we have Dorthy. She is 12 years old and in the 7th grade. She is from Hagerman, Idaho. Her favorite things to do in school are reading and math. Outside of school she is learning how to play the piano and likes to sing along to songs. She describes her successes in life as rewarding because everything she has achieved, she worked hard to make possible. I had asked her if she would change anything, and she told me that she would not want to change anything and would not know what it would be if she did. In the future, Dorthy wants to help a lot of people, but she has not figured out what she wants to do for her career yet. She says she wants to try her best, go to college, and be herself to have a successful future. Her advice to students is, “To try their best in life, and not to be afraid to make mistakes."

Next, we have Kinley. She is 17 years old and in the 12th grade (senior). She moved here in Hagerman from Meridian in her 6th-grade year. Her favorite thing to do at school is math, and in her free time, she is always outdoors hiking, kayaking, or just with her dog, or other outdoor activities. Kinley believes that success in life does not come from objects such as money. She believes it comes from self-reflection and the quality of life you provide, and she believes that success is being happy and enjoying life by doing what you want while taking into perspective others’ lives. I asked her if she could change anything in the world, and she said, “I would like to change individuals' perspectives on life. I want to make people more open to new opportunities, and have a more positive outlook on life.” Her plan for the future is to go to college at the University of Idaho and then Vet school at Washington State University after graduating high school. She also wants to own her vet clinic. She plans to be successful in life by being faithful to the Lord and not let others change who she is. Kinley says that if her career plan changes, then she would switch to rangeland management, and she enjoyed the rangeland management CDE through FFA, and love doing math-related stocking rate problems. Her advice to you is, “Be aware that it does not matter what others think. Your hair does not always have to be perfect, and you do not need to impress those who make you change to impress them. Just be yourself and be confident in yourself.”

Veterans Day

On Veterans Day, we had a drive-by for the veterans. We honored, thanked, and celebrated our Veterans. Multiple cars drove by. We were holding flags and signs, and at the end, they got a balloon with a note and M&M's. The veterans wanted to thank us for doing this for them, but we mainly thank them. We thank you, veterans, for fighting for our country. Thanksgiving break is coming up. Teachers and students get a break. This is a time to be grateful, spend time with your family, and eat lots of food.
