What is spirit week? This question gets asked a lot from families and schools and why some schools use this tradition. Spirit week is a week of fun and excitement where students and staff members dress up or even just have fun activities during the week. At Hagerman High, we have two spirit weeks a year for school. The first one is before Christmas break they had twin day, tourist day, duo day, and spirit day which is the schools colors. The week before spring break we had Mismatch Monday, Tropical Tuesday, Dress like a Celebrity, and anything but a backpack. During the assembly on Thursday, March 17,

Dalli Ellison had signed over to Lewis and Clark University.

I have asked Dalli some questions about the college and how she felt in that moment. Here was her response:

I chose Lewis and Clark because it has a very beautiful valley and it has the highest nursing rankings in Idaho for their nursing program. I plan to study nursing for two years and then move back down to southern Idaho to finish out my internship. While attending college, my goal is to become the best nurse I can while still having a little fun and making unforgettable memories with track and friendships.

When I signed my papers to be officially accepted into the LC track team, it was an amazing experience for me and I was filled with hope and excitement that I can continue the sport I love most to do. Some of my requirements as a Student athlete are that I have to take a study hall to keep my grades up. I have to have higher than a 3.2 at all times, and I have to have more then 12 credits to keep my scholarship.

Spring break is coming up for Hagerman Highschool students! Spring break for the students lasts from March 13th to March 20th 2022. The last week of school before spring break, Hagerman High puts on a spirit week. This year's spirit week days include, Monday: Mix Match Day, Tuesday: Tropical Day, Wednesday: Dress Like A Celebrity, and Thursday: Anything But A Backpack Day. We’ll also have an assembly on Tuesday to show off our tropical outfits and some school spirit!

With spring coming into play, we cannot forget about Easter coming up.

Easter this year falls on Sunday, April 17th 2022. The community of Hagerman will be putting on an Easter egg hunt Easter morning at the city park. Make sure to bring your kids, nieces/nephews, cousins, etc. There will be prizes as well as just having fun and finding eggs full of candy! For Christians, Easter is the crucifiction and resurrection of Jesus Christ from about 2,000 years ago. “According to some sources, the Easter bunny first arrived in America in the 1700s with German immigrants who settled in Pennsylvania and transported their tradition of an egg-laying hare called “Osterhase” or “Oschter Haws.” Their children made nests in which this creature could lay its colored eggs,” (Google).

Students from school all do different things for Easter. A sophomore, Branson Hauser, states that he wakes up in the morning and hunts for eggs in his front yard with the hopes of finding money inside eggs. Another Sophomore, Keaton Brewer, says that he has lunch/dinner with his family and they all put on an egg hunt in the evening. I hope everyone has a great spring break as well as Easter!

What is Dual Credit?

Dual credit is where any student with a GPA higher than a 3.0 can take a college course as a high school student. These classes can help you save time and money while you are in highschool to gain college credits. Dual Credit gives you opportunities as a high school student to be able to get ahead in your future.

FastForward is a program that lets the state of Idaho give each high school student $4,180 to use to take these courses. These college courses at CSI are $300 each. Dual Credit allows hagerman high school students to only spend $75 on these courses.

Asking the Experts

To get a better understanding of dual credit, I decided to ask our Vice Principal, Dr. Easterday.

Dr. Easterday gave me a lot of information and tips. He explained that any high school student that wants to go to college and get a head start, has the opportunity to do so. Dual credit can make a huge impact on the students' education. Dr Easterday also tells us the advantages and disadvantages of dual credit. These advantages of taking a college course will help you achieve and make your education goal. The disadvantages to taking a college course is if a student doesn't take it seriously and fails that class. I asked Easterday what the meaning of doing dual credit was, he explained that dual credit allows any high school student to take a college class while getting the highschool and college credit out of the way quickly. He also told me that you can pretty much take any college course here at hagerman high school that can get you an associates degree.

Dr. Easterday said, “It’s never too late to start”. He is very passionate about helping students here at hagerman high school to overcome and achieve their dreams and goals. He wants to do more for the school and the students.
