Hagerman High School and Dual Credit.

What is Dual Credit?

Dual credit is where any student with a GPA higher than a 3.0 can take a college course as a high school student. These classes can help you save time and money while you are in highschool to gain college credits. Dual Credit gives you opportunities as a high school student to be able to get ahead in your future.

FastForward is a program that lets the state of Idaho give each high school student $4,180 to use to take these courses. These college courses at CSI are $300 each. Dual Credit allows hagerman high school students to only spend $75 on these courses.

Asking the Experts

To get a better understanding of dual credit, I decided to ask our Vice Principal, Dr. Easterday.

Dr. Easterday gave me a lot of information and tips. He explained that any high school student that wants to go to college and get a head start, has the opportunity to do so. Dual credit can make a huge impact on the students' education. Dr Easterday also tells us the advantages and disadvantages of dual credit. These advantages of taking a college course will help you achieve and make your education goal. The disadvantages to taking a college course is if a student doesn't take it seriously and fails that class. I asked Easterday what the meaning of doing dual credit was, he explained that dual credit allows any high school student to take a college class while getting the highschool and college credit out of the way quickly. He also told me that you can pretty much take any college course here at hagerman high school that can get you an associates degree.

Dr. Easterday said, “It’s never too late to start”. He is very passionate about helping students here at hagerman high school to overcome and achieve their dreams and goals. He wants to do more for the school and the students.
